Second Chance Wildlife Sanctuary 2017 Spring Fling

  • VT1263VT1263

This annual fundraising buffet dinner and silent auction was held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Andrews Community Centre in Ajax. The volunteers of Second Chance appearing in this picture planed and organized this fundraising evening to raise funds to help care for the 150 Second Chance cats. This being Canada's sesquicentennial year, the decorative theme of the Spring Fling was Canada's colours . In keeping with the theme, a very large Canadian Flag was displayed - virtually covering the east wall of St. Andrews Centre.

Thank you to Allstate Foundation of Canada for again supporting our Spring Fling fundraiser. Mary Lattion-Wells (volunteer with Second Chance), representing Allstate Foundation of Canada, presented Allstate's contribution to Phyllis Healey, President of Second Chance Wildlife Sanctuary.

2017 Victorian Afternoon Tea

On Sunday, February 26, 2017, a Victorian Afternoon Tea was held at
Vandermeer Nursery (Lakeridge Road and Bayly Street) in Ajax.
Claire Nicklin organizes this event as a fundraiser to help the cats of Second Chance.
The Afternoon Tea offers something for everyone. Several varieties of tea were available,
as well as coffee (compliments of Starbucks located in the Ajax Durham Centre),
to go with the tasty sandwiches made by Erst and Janet Buchelor and cookies and scones
provided by Kathy and Claire. There was a best "Victorian Hat or Costume" contest;
numerous vendors offered items for sale; the bake sale – home baking – was very popular
and the Silent Auction offered a selection of enticing choices.

Attending the Victorian Tea is an opportunity to shop at Vandermeers for plants and
gardening supplies and see the very colourful Koi and the turtles.
The Victorian Afternoon Tea at Vandermeer Nursery where it is so pleasant and
warm with sun streaming in through the greenhouse roof is a lovely way to spend a cold February afternoon.
